Kyle Edwards

Aquarium Technician

Passionate about aquariums, SCUBA diving, and ocean conservation

A Life-Long Fascination for the Ocean

Kyle’s journey into the world of aquariums started early. From a young age, he was captivated by the mysteries of the ocean and its diverse inhabitants.

“I have always been fascinated with aquariums and aquatic life,” Kyle says.

“Being able to understand a type of life so different from our own is always intriguing. I’ve always wanted to be an advocate for these animals and their habitats to protect and preserve them for the future.”

Bridging the Gap Between Land and Sea

For Kyle, aquariums serve a vital role in connecting people with the ocean. “Aquariums act as a liaison between the ocean and us as humans on land. Once people form a connection with the underwater world, they care and advocate for their newfound fish friends,” he explains.

Kyle is also passionate about the creation of marine sanctuaries, which he sees as vital to protecting fish and coral species.

“These sanctuaries create a safe haven for populations to breed and recover from human interference. They also allow for greater fishing yields in surrounding areas, helping both fishermen and wild fish populations,” Kyle explains.

These beliefs drive Kyle in his work, as he strives to create aquariums that inspire and educate.

Mandarin Gobies and Marine Ecology

Kyle’s favorite fish species is the Mandarin Goby, native to the Pacific, a colorful and mesmerizing resident of the reef.

With plenty of of experience in aquarium maintenance, Kyle brings an extensive background in fish ecology to his work, allowing him to create thriving aquatic ecosystems where every creature can flourish.

The Curious Case of the Slipper Lobsters

One of Kyle’s most memorable experiences involved caring for slipper lobsters at the National Aquarium.

“These slipper lobsters were some of the most peculiar animals I have ever taken care of,” Kyle recalls.

“The way they would find their food and adapt to our schedule over time was incredibly intriguing, especially the way they would dig holes in the rear of the gravel.”

Diving Deep into Aquarium Design

Kyle’s favorite aspect of his job is the variety of aquariums he gets to work with. “Each aquarium is its own ecosystem, which allows for radically different designs and appearances,” he says.

His love for SCUBA diving and seeing underwater life in its natural habitat further fuels his creativity when designing these aquatic environments.

A Thoughtful Approach to Troubleshooting

When it comes to troubleshooting aquarium issues, Kyle takes a measured approach.

“My first step is understanding the main issue, whether it be a spike in a certain nutrient or a coral polyp struggling. From there, I take small steps back and figure out what could be going wrong. Through these small adjustments, the root of the problem is found without causing a big swing in the opposite direction.”

Beyond the Aquarium

When he’s not working on aquariums, Kyle enjoys a good book, playing video games with friends, and taking care of his plants and dogs.

His dedication to creating thriving ecosystems extends beyond the tanks he works to the life he leads outside of work.

The FantaSEA Experience

At FantaSEA Aquariums, we believe in open and transparent service, and Kyle exemplifies this in his work. “I strive for a very open and transparent service where the client can ask questions and have their input into their aquariums,” he says.

With Kyle on our team, you can trust that your aquarium is in the hands of someone who is as passionate about aquatic life as you are.
